Steamboat Switzerland is an ensemble formed in 1995 by Lucas Niggli (drum) from Uster, Dominik Blum (Hammond Organ) and Marino Pliakas (E-bass), both from Zurich. It is at home in a wide range of contemporary music settings. The trio’s skill is not limited to interpretation of challenging compositions (e.g. Felix Profos, Michael Werthmüller, David Dramm), but is extended by thrilling improvisations.
Steamboat Switzerland has been touring Europe and the US with the same line-up since it was formed, playing at various international festivals (MaerzMusik Berlin, Donaueschingen, Huddersfield to Vancouver) as well as clubs on the underground rock scene. The trio has been awarded with the annual promotion grant of the city of Zurich. Eight CDs/LPs have been published so far.
